“So was JC! You’re in good company…”

Here’s a few snaps taken while we were painting for Anything Goes at R&R Gallery. The time lapse video shows the full transformation between the multiple layers, as each painting seemed to become at least 5 different pieces throughout the process (will post the video as soon as I get a copy). Ten of us were locked in from 8pm-4am rotating every 30min to a new canvas/wall and things got crazy…such a fun chaotic night of making things for the sake of making things.

Here’s a few snaps from last weekend’s art show, Fruit of the Soul. Despite having the liquor license revoked, it was a good turnout. Honestly- there was a secret VIP liquor table assembled up in the walk-in freezer full of booze galore so it didn’t matter much (hence the pumpkin shot). Sezio had a sweet set up and overall, the art looked great hung up in the 18 wheelers. For more pics go HERE.

THE NEXT ART SHOW I’M IN IS OCT 16th:
Fruit of the Soul is an annual arts, music and culinary event hosted at the Specialty Produce warehouse in Mid Town. Going on five years strong, FOTS combines the best food, art and music San Diego has to offer and annually raises over $20,000 for local charities.  Sezio will be curating this year’s art installment, which will be showcased in two semi trucks turned pop-up galleries for the October 16th event.  Sezio will also be live silk screening tees and collaborating on a live art installation.
Tickets and details for the event can be found here.  RSVP on Facebook here.

There are two types of people in this world, those who like Bill Murray and those who don’t….well, last Friday’s show at R&R Gallery, Mr. Bill Murray: a tribute to a legend, was perhaps one of the biggest turnouts I have ever seen at a gallery opening. And why wouldn’t it have been? It just proves how much the show’s theme resonates with people everywhere. When I arrived at 7pm there was already a small line of people outside eagerly waiting for the doors to open. It was then I realized that this thing might get crazy…

I went inside to find gallery owners Mark Yamamoto and C.W. Mihlberger, sleep deprived, rushing around amongst a swarm of gallery workers. I jumped in to help out with last minute prep-work. Then, we opened the doors and people literally poured in. The place was packed before 8pm, and by 9pm a line had formed outside stretching down the block in both directions. “This is pitiful. A thousand people freezing their butts off, waiting to worship a rat…” (Groundhog Day). It was clear, everyone was wondering if Bill was going to show up.

A news crew shot video and interviewed the artists while photographers attempted to get actual artwork and not just crowds in their shots. The bar was mobbed by a thick line and a DJ found the only corner left in the space to fit in. Outside, people dressed as Ghostbusters posted up with their Ectomobile (no shit) parked in front, lights blazing, crowd ogling. And even though Mr. Murray wasn’t in attendance, people kept pouring in. It was crazy, “riots in the streets, dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria!” (Ghostbusters).

Yup, this show was one huge crowded success. Over 50 works of art in all styles and mediums portrayed some of Bill’s most memorable characters. Pieces were selling fast (I sold both of mine: ‘Punxsutawney Bill’ and ‘Herman Blume Takes A Dive‘-woo!!) as well as limited addition prints and tees. It was a madhouse. It was a party. It was all about Bill…and at the end of that successful night we made a toast, “said a prayer, and drank to world peace….” (Groundhog Day).

Check out more event pics here at Guest of a Guest.  View the artwork at R&R’s online store.
